At MFLG, we are proud to recognize and support students whose stories reflect perseverance, dedication, and a commitment to making a meaningful impact. This year, we are honored to award our scholarship to Ruth Dyal, a junior at Flagler College whose journey as a military child has shaped her into an exceptional student and future legal professional.
A Passion for Learning and Advocacy
Ruth is currently pursuing a rigorous academic path, studying English, Spanish, and Law at Flagler College. With aspirations of attending law school after graduation, she is already setting her sights on impactful areas of legal practice, including military, immigration, and family law. Her interest in immigration law is deeply personal—she comes from a bilingual family, with her mother originally from Cuba, which has fueled her curiosity and passion for helping others navigate complex legal systems.

As the daughter of a father who has served in both the Marine Corps and the Navy for over two decades, Ruth has grown up immersed in the values of honor, courage, and commitment. These principles have profoundly influenced her outlook on life. She credits her father as her greatest inspiration, noting that his example has taught her what true hard work and sacrifice look like.
Strength Through Change
Ruth’s experience as a military child has not been without its challenges. Having moved more than ten times and attended over ten schools, she has had to constantly adapt to new environments, build new friendships, and navigate periods of separation during her father’s deployments. Rather than viewing these experiences as setbacks, Ruth has embraced them as opportunities for growth.
Her global upbringing—including time spent across the United States and in Guam, with plans to live in Italy—has given her a unique perspective and a deep appreciation for different cultures. These experiences have strengthened her resilience, adaptability, and ability to connect with others.

Ruth was encouraged to apply for this scholarship by a close family friend connected. While the opportunity for financial support was appealing, her primary motivation was to share her story—particularly the profound impact her father’s service has had on her life.
Looking Ahead
As Ruth prepares for law school, she plans to explore opportunities to work with military branches such as the Army, Navy, or Air Force. Ultimately, she hopes to build a career where she can support individuals and families facing difficult circumstances, ensuring they never feel alone in their struggles.
This scholarship will help ease the financial burden of law school by covering essential materials such as textbooks—allowing Ruth to focus fully on her studies and future career.
